Bernabe Flores III is the director of orchestra at Independent Schools Foundation Academy in Hong Kong where he teaches MYP (IB Middle Years Programme) Music. Bernie is an accomplished horn player who has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, band and orchestral musician. Bernie has also had a significant amount of experience as a conductor, arranger and orchestrator for youth bands and orchestras.
Bernie earned his degree in music in University of Santo Tomas where he was awarded full scholarship to play French horn with the Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band. He was a prize winner of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) held in the Cultural Center of the Philippines in the Solo Category in 2001 and 2004. Between these events, he was selected to play in the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra in Thailand. Bernie also served as principal horn in the Philippine Youth Symphony Band for a few years before becoming a freelance horn player. Before committing to music education, Bernie enjoyed performing in concerts and recording sessions with various orchestras and chamber groups; the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the ASEAN-China Joint Cultural Orchestra to name a few.
Bernie continues to enjoy his passion for music performance and music education through his positions at ISF Academy and ISCMS. During his free time, you will find him swimming, cycling or running in different ares in Hong Kong. He enjoys reading books and playing Horn concertos on Kazoo with his two-year-old daughter, Iraya.
